EdCamp/Unconference/Professional Dialogue

My round-table group discussed history and language arts combination.  Teresa McCarthy shared how her students are using Social, Political, Economic, and Culture.  When she used SPEC to analyze the American Colonies, Mrs. McCarthy uses a brochure format for students to categorize information into each component of SPEC.

I loved the fact that Mrs. McCarthy is using SPEC as an analyzing tool because its an example of vertical teaming for 5th and 8th grade students.  It would be interesting to track those students into 8th grade and place them in my class.  I could tap into their long-term memory and use their prior foundation/base too use SPEC in a more complex setting when analyzing primary or secondary text.
