How do you analyze a primary document using SOAPSTone?

My goal is to use Abraham Lincoln's Gettysburg Address (1863) as the primary document. It represents a Tier 1 history skill; in addition, I will simultaneously focus on writing a response to literature, which is the act of producing an insightful interpretation.

My history goal is for students to understand: How Lincoln's speech affected the nations opinion concerning the Civil War's future?

In order to produce a response, I will utilize SOAPSTone as a writing technique that will empower critical thinking/responses.

I will develop a Smartboard Notebook presentation that includes three parts: a pre-visual lecture with images and audio of Lincoln's speech, the students will be introduced to the SOAPSTone graphic organizer/worksheet, and finally the students will be paired to analyze the official Gettysburg speech.
